Just Putting Around

An evil friend e-mailed this to me recently. Looking for a way to get out of doing just about anything else for an hour or so? Check out this online putting game.

Testing WP Gagging on New Posts

Posted: October 27th, 2004 | Filed Under: Uncategorized
I keep getting these error messages having to do with xml-rpc.php when I post a new entry.
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/myblog/public_html/wp-includes/class-xmlrpc.php on line 629
Hopefully I’ve commented out the offending code.

Back in the Saddle Again!

I found a great way to combat that annoying comment spamming autobot fool at suddenenlightenment.us that’s been plaguing quite a few WP blogs (including this one) of late. Follow this thread at the WordPress Support Forum, courtesy of TechGnome!

Comments have not only been disabled, but the comment-specific php files have been renamed. su.tnemnethgilneneddusnull@oliL has hammered this site with over 200 comments in the span of five minutes. Anyone who wants to reach me can do so by using the Contact link instead. Make sure you reference the entry you are commenting about. Don’t make me guess! More on the culprit: Looking through my server logs, it appears these are the IP addresses to ban (I went through CPanel and banned these from the entire site, not just WordPress). 195.193.5.101 216.148.212.187

Plugging It All In

Posted: October 24th, 2004 | Filed Under: Uncategorized
I’m getting settled back in after upgrading from Wuh-Wuh to WP 1.2.1. I’d like to give a hat tip to the following for the plugins I’m about to use! David Chait’s CG-Powerpack, found at Chait -Gear Alex King’s Style Switcher and PDA Plugins, found at AlexKing.org Scott Reilly’s Text Replace plugin (which I have been salivating to use ever since I read about it, but it doesn’t work with Wuh-Wuh), found at Coffee2Code Thanks, guys!

Blowing Up Your Blog

I’m going to be working behind the scenes on this site for a few minutes. There’s a chance (hopefully SLIM) that I’ll mess it up horribly. But I’ve backed up my site and my MySQL database thanks to Wuh-Wuh’s One-Click Backup plugin. My evil plan? To upgrade to WP 1.2 and convert to Gemini. Not all of my skins are making the transition at first. A few will right away though. And the rest will be converted as time permits. This is, of course, making the bald assumption that the upgrade will go smoothly. See ya on the other side. Or not.

Political Ad Gallery Open!

Found these while hanging around in the Usenet group, alt.binaries.pictures.clip-art. The original source is oldamericancentury.org. By featuring these images, I am not endorsing one party over another. They are posted merely for your enjoyment. So spare me your political vitriol, m’kay?

There is a great article at ALA discussing an even better way to thwart thieves trying to hotlink your images and appease people who are innocently linking to it. Go read.

Ghosties and Ghoulies…

and long-leggedy beasties and things that go boot in the night. That’s what Matt had to contend with the other night as his desktop Windoze computer came magically to life and rebooted itself, to Matt’s surprise and dismay, taking some unsaved proggies with it. His laptop, in a decidely Stepford kind of way, decided to follow suit. Hopefully, Matt wasn’t working on some vital WP goodies when his machines went down for the count! Ah, the power of Microsnot. My desktop (running Windows XP Pro) has been bugging the daylights out of me for weeks now about installing SP2. Call me crazy and call me stupid, but I am in no rush to download it. My computer is patched and I’ve got up to date antivirus software, firewall software, firewall hardware and several hacking and malware sniffers on board at all times. But the thing continues to nag, to buzz around my tail like a pesky fly. To yank my shirtsleeve like a rude child after some candy. Can I install SP2 now, mommy? Can I? Can I do it now? Do you want me to update now? Please? Let’s do it now, okay? Come on. I want to install SP2. Please can I? Can I can I can I can I? Oh please, oh please, oh please, puh-leeeze? And then it throws itself on the floor and starts flailing its arms and legs. Whereupon I get up and stand over it, writhing on the floor. I clench my fists. Then my leg arcs back and drives forward right into its kidney. With the pointed toe of my best pair of stiletto pumps. I hear it let out a big gasp of air. Grinning madly, I rear back again, and again, my shoe connects with its side. I hope I ruptured its kidney. I feel better now.
