Annoyances, Vol. 32

Posted: April 30th, 2004 | Filed Under: Uncategorized |

Why Volume 32? Well, I’ve completely lost track of the “annoyance” posts I have here. I must lead a miserable life, if so much in it irks me. Well, you be the judge. This week’s scrapings, in no particular order:

  1. Food service person asking me what kind of dressing I want on my Caesar Salad. Uh, CAESAR dressing, fool! (What other kind would there be? No, maybe I don’t want to know! Don’t answer that!)
  2. Type-A driver in lane next to me, where I want to be. He won’t pull ahead so I can change lanes, he hangs back. Finally, after I gun the motor and burn two gallons of gas overtaking the stupid SOB, he moves to the OTHER lane. The lane where I was. Why didn’t he just GO THERE to begin with. Sheesh.
  3. The goober pea at the McDonald’s kiosk in the hospital who asked me what kind of milk I wanted, white or chocolate. Sigh. Milk is milk. Chocolate milk is chocolate flavored milk. If I had wanted chocolate milk, I simply would have ASKED FOR IT. This numbnuts must be related to Idiot #1 above.
  4. the CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) on the night shift who insists on changing Robert into a clean gown and bed sheets BEFORE doing his cath and bowel program. We are talking pee and poop here. The prudent thing to do would be to get those two things out of the way, THEN change the bedding and clothes. C’mon, peeps. It’s NOT THAT HARD!! Reason it out. Think it through!

Score one for the little guy. In this case out of the Fifth Circuit, the Court overturned the trial court’s judgment against a disgruntled consumer who registered a domain name similar to the company against whom he held a grudge and proceeded to post his story on the site. The Fifth Circuit ruled that his actions were not done in a commercial capacity, were not done with the intent to profit, and that he was not a cybersquatter intending to hold the domain hostage.

You meet all kinds of folks on the Internet. I had been having a nice e-mail exchange with someone who is using one of my WebJones.org blog skins. She needed a bit of help tweaking the template and since I was in a benevolent mood that day (oh, lucky girl!), I agreed to help her with it.

She’s got a nice site and it’s heartwarming to see my designs put to use. Welcome to my blogroll, Trish. (She’s using pMachine, BTW.)

One of the attractions of WordPress is the ability of password protection on an entry-by-entry basis. No futzing around with PHP or scripts or .htaccess. It’s great.

Beware the construction barrels, saw horses, orange cones and other warning signs that I’m once again fiddling and futzing with the site. Sorry! Should be up and back to normal (!) later tonight!

Hah! For once, Robert can say that **I** drive better than he does. At least in fantasyland! We bought Crazy Taxi for Playstation 2 recently. I thought he’d enjoy it. It’s hard to find a PS2 game that isn’t martial arts-based. At first, I was all over the road, but once I mastered the controller, I got better at it than Robert. But I have a feeling he’ll have more time to practice and will soon outdo me.

We’ve tried some of the other PS2 games. He thinks he might like Major League Heat 2004, which I recently bought NIB on e-Bay. But he has more trouble with the controller than I do. The thing that gets me is I have motion sickness. So most 3D games make my head hurt. Like one of the games that came with our Playstation, Sly Cooper and the Thievius Racoonus. Unfortunately, I must stick to 2D games I was raised on, like the old 8-bit Nintendo games. So I went on e-Bay and found The Atari 2600 Anthology. Great 2D games that scroll to the right. And that’s it! No more headaches. Robert poo-pooed those games, though, but they were the ones **I** love the most.

If you’re reading this at jonimueller.com, that’s because I’ve created an URL redirect from my MovableType blog at jonielectric.com. For now, this site won’t be skinned. I’m still learning about WordPress, its templates, etc. Skinning may come later.

Right now, I want to concentrate on content. Thanks for hanging in there with me!
