First Thing We Do….

You know, there is an old saying about a town being too small to have any amount of work for one lawyer, but big enough to keep TWO of them happily busy into the next millennium.

According to this article in the Houston Business Journal, lawyers are still busy sorting through the various claims wrought by Desert Storm, most significant among them, the environmental losses sustained by Kuwait.

The funds for the 1991 claims come from the UN sanctions against Iraq, and [Energy Panel member and retired Marathon Oil lawyer Larry] Wiese thinks it likely the sanctions will be discontinued after the regime change, which could leave the remaining claimants uncompensated.

Looks like the only people who benefit from this war, either way, are the lawyers.

Just so we’re all clear on the concept, excerpted from the U.S. Constitution, found online:

Section. 3.
Clause 1: Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

Clause 2: The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.

U.S. Const. art. III, § 3, cl. 1-2.

Since Greg has relocated to the Nutbowl of the country (according to Acidman anyway), here’s a test he should take immediately so as to quickly acclimate himself to the ways of the California highway scene….

Neck and Neck, I Can’t Stand It!

Looks like two of my favorite bloggers are vying for position over at Wander-Lust. It’s almost a dead heat between ElectricVenom and The Misfit, with EV enjoying a slight lead. In any event, both of these journals are excellent reads with insightful commentary and observations by two very intelligent and witty bloggers. You. Go. Girls.

Sunday Drive: 2000 BMW Z8

Posted: March 30th, 2003 | Filed Under: Uncategorized |

I’ve been a bit remiss in keeping up with my Sunday Drive series. You’d think that I’d have more time on my hands, what with being on vacation these past two weeks, but …. enough with the excuses. On with the show!

Today’s ride is dedicated to The Mighty Quinn, whom I understand has a serious “thang” about the Beemer…. perhaps he’ll fall head over gascap for this little gal: The 2000 BMW Z8? As always, click on the thumbnail for a larger photo.

Feed Me, Seymour

An alert David over at Illustrated News pointed out that my XML and RDF feeds weren’t validating. This is a Movable Type issue and upgrading from version 2.5 does not automatically fix the problem. Instead, you must go here to download the updated RSS templates. Note that clicking on the template links does not work, you must right-click and “Save Target As,” save the templates to your hard drive and then cut and paste the text into your MT templates according to the directions provided.

So now my RSS is valid, even if my CSS sometimes is not. (Why not, you ask? Because in most cases, my stylesheets use colored scrollbars, which are only visible in IE6 and therefore won’t pass muster with the CSS Validator. But my desire to be trendy, stylish and cool overrides my desire to be valid. So I guess I am a colorful invalid!)

Thanks, David!

P.S. Anyone else with valid RSS can head here and pick up some cool “Valid RSS” buttons for their web pages….
