Well, Like, Fer Shure!

Posted: December 29th, 2002 | Filed Under: Uncategorized |

Didn’t we already establish this fact? Now it’s even more official!

Which era in time are you?

Stolen from Maddy! Like you really needed more clues I’m stuck in the 80s: The last FOUR vehicles I’ve had, including the one I have now, have been 1984-88 models; I still have an old 386 Bondwell Laptop; it still has Displaywrite 4 and Zork I, II and III on it; I still have two cassettes I taped on my old Marantz tape deck back in 1986 [Billy Squier and Loverboy]…. Three of my top five favorite movies are movies of the 1980s (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Top Gun and Poltergeist). Do you want me to go on? It’s kinda sick, really.

But go ahead and join in the madness … listen to I’m a Pasty White, Scrawny English Dude With a Big Voice (Rick Astley) (6.1MB). Enjoy!

Turning Over a New Leaf?

Posted: December 29th, 2002 | Filed Under: Uncategorized |

Robert finally got tired of all the leaves that had been collecting on our stairs, in the drive way, on the “grassy knoll” between the two buildings. The landlord hasn’t been out to do any yardwork in weeks. Yet he saw fit to bellyache that the porches needed to be cleaned off.

Leaves on a steep set of stairs is a safety hazard. I almost fell on my big butt the other day scrambling down the stairs (running late as usual). A slick, wet leaf (or two or ten of them) (not an unusual circumstance in humid Houston) was nearly my downfall (literally).

Here’s some before and after pics.

Sunday Drive: 1998 Acura NSX

Posted: December 29th, 2002 | Filed Under: Uncategorized |

Okay, I’m back on track with the Sunday Drive. This time, it’s the Acura NSX in bumblebee yellow! It’s late and I’m tired so gaze at these awhile. I’ll update tomorrow morning (uh, THIS morning!) with specs after I’ve had a few hours’ sleep, some coffee and breakfast!

P*U*S*S*Y Galore!

Joanie’s site was down temporarily today since it apparently exceeded its monthly bandwidth limitations. This is a problem usually faced by porn and warez site operators, not a woman alone with her blog.

But she’s not alone. There are all these folks out there with nothing better to do that put this word into their keyword searches.

Good grief people!! If you’ve seen one cat, you’ve seen ‘em all. Take it from me: I have two!

Buwahhaaa!!

Skin Me Alive!

Well, finally, with a little help from a friend, this site is now running on a little bit of PHP and a prayer. And the stylesheet switcher is in place. Now, this is not full-tilt PHP like some people have, but it’s a nice start, and it may very well be all I need or want.

A word of warning. The Fat Lady Done Sung at the OPERA. Opera6 apparently has a problem with some of my background-attachments, so bear with it. Or just go with the other sheep and grab IE6. I’ll be messing around with things a bit more (for a tweaker like me, this is positively hog heaven!).

I’m going to sleep now. (www.gotosleephoe.com)

Later, everyone!

Friday Five

Okay, it’s early because Heather got it out early! (It may very well be the ONLY time this year I’ve come in under deadline!)

1. What was your biggest accomplishment this year? Hrm. This was a ho-hum year except for the extra assignment. And I did triumph over that. Yet, my biggest accomplishment this year, I believe, has been to take control of my finances. I remember this time last year, I wasn’t in as good a shape financially. And this year, not only have I been able to tuck some money away for our NYC trip next spring, but was able to splurge on some goodies for us for Christmas this year. Yeah, Santa was good to Robert and Joni this year!

2. What was your biggest disappointment? The debacle that was the extra assignment this year. It was failure looking to happen and it happened to me. I don’t think anyone held my inability to keep up against me, since I did get a decent raise this year, despite the fact that neither of my then-bossettes reviewed me (to my knowledge).

3. Will you be making any New Year’s resolutions? No, that is another thing that is destined to fail before it gets off the ground.

4. Where will you be at midnight? Do you wish you could be somewhere else? I’ll be right here at home with Robert and the cats, and I couldn’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be!

5. Aside from (possibly) staying up late, do you have any other New Year’s traditions? Well, we are night owls to begin with, so really, we might break tradition by going to bed when the news is on…. nah!! We’ll probably stay up awhile, and ring in the new year by slapping the cats at the stroke of midnight. If the New Year’s holiday hadn’t fallen smack dab in the middle of the week and if I were able to take some time off, we might have been tempted to drive to Louisiana (destination: Nawlins). We did that one New Year’s Eve. It was completely spur of the moment. (Great thing about having cats, rather than dogs: automatic feeders and litter pans. The cats take care of themselves for the day and a half or two days that you are away!)

Designing Woman

I hope everyone’s having a safe and happy holiday! I enjoyed my five days off, but it’s back to work tomorrow.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time on site redesigns. Oh, but don’t worry. This project is a little more involved but when finished will be worth it. It will satisfy (hopefully) my need to tweak and fiddle, and give you the fruits of those labors. I’m working on making this site skinnable. So it’s a complete overhaul, including making sure every single template works with the master stylesheet so all I need to do is change some values. So far I’ve got four prospective designs up. I’ve cleaned up the code to where the templates are completely driven by the stylesheets. A mere cut and paste of one style sheet in place of another would result in a completely new site design.

But of course it would be nice for you to be in the driver’s seat there. That will come in time. In the meanwhile, don’t be startled if you come here and don’t see the familiar red-gray-white color scheme. It’s just me changing clothes again….
