About

Okay, so you’ve searched the site, you’ve read the posts? You still want to know more about me? Or maybe you took the easy way out and decided to come here first, clever thing! Here’s all the information about me that you could possibly want … and then some!

Who Does She Think She Is?

Footloose I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and graduated from high school in the mid-1970s. (Okay, you math whizzes can figure out just exactly how long my teeth are!) I met Robert, my significant other, shortly after my mother died in 1980. It was I who got into the back of his cab. My initial impression of him was that he was arrogant and stuck on himself. But much like a fungus, he grew on me. When we hit rocky times in 1991, I decided I had had enough of that town and set my sights on Houston and Robert followed shortly after. I got a job at one of the largest law firms in town and have been working there ever since. And Robert and I are still together! We have a fat cat, Sunny, and live in relative solitude in a 1930s bungalow in a quiet older district of Houston called Idylwood.

Joni Fortune and luck has a way of changing and life has a way of throwing a monkey wrench into your paradise sometimes. In September 2003, Robert suffered from a spinal epidural abscess which has left him a T-11 para incomplete. It was Robert who nursed me through my cancer back in 1990, so it is now my turn to return the favor. He’s doing a bit better, since he got that custom Ti-Lite chair. I don’t post about his medical problems on this blog too much. I have a private blog where I post news of interest to his close friends and family. But sometimes I do share things, especially if something or someone (usually a doctor or insurance company bureaucrat) has gotten my goat!

I’ve been a legal secretary as long as I’ve ever held a job! I currently work in the Appellate section of a large Houston law firm, where I’ve been for a over nine years, working for an appellate partner (yeah, we clean up after the trial lawyers, boo-yah!). I was certified a PLS (Professional Legal Secretary) in 1985 and a CLA (Certified Legal Assistant) in 1986. When I’m not ordering lawyers around, I like to design web sites, and secondary to that, blog about it. When I retire, I plan to write a tell-all book that will bring the State Bar to its knees. Book sales will go through the roof as lawyers in South Texas paw through it shamelessly looking to see if they are mentioned! (A girl can dream, can’t she?!)

She who must be obeyed In 2005, I was fortunate enough to meet, in an online community, the person who has now become my best friend and business partner. He lives across the sea, in Europe, and he’s shared bits and pieces of his life and his culture with me. For that I will forever be grateful. I’m listening to wonderful new music, learning a new language (to his chagrin), and now .. I can’t imagine my life without him in it, and hope I never have to. Ja volja nikada dopust te, srce moje. Volim te.
